Fitness Enhancement
KLC School Partnerships heard our parents’ requests for more health and fitness activities. Our Fitness enhancement is part of every program and incorporates fitness and health on many levels. We also offer a version tailored to preschoolers and kingergarteners.
Health and Nutrition
One activity asks children to list everything they’ve eaten that day and then decide on healthier alternatives with guidance. Children might also be asked to cut out photos of healthy foods in magazines and tape these photos to sections on a paper plate as a reminder to eat foods from important food groups at every meal.
Relaxation and Stress Management
To help children learn “stress-busting” techniques, we have incorporated stress management. Children learn techniques such as progressive relaxation—relaxing their bodies from head to toe, guided imagery for visualizing relaxing environments, and proper breathing techniques (belly breathing).
Physical Activity
To incorporate physical activity into children’s daily lives, we offer activities such as jump rope rhyming. In our science-focused segment, children create maps of neighborhood areas great for biking, hiking, etc., and participate in nature “discovery hikes” where possible, among many other activities.
Goal Setting
Each activity emphasizes self-discipline to achieve health and fitness goals. Sticking with an exercise plan and committing to healthier eating are all part of helping children succeed in other areas, such as academics and interpersonal relationships. The ultimate objective is increased self-esteem as children set and obtain goals.
