2008 SCIENCE ADVENTURES™ SUMMEr Science Camps offer students Hands-On science experiences

Littleton, CO (March 31, 2008) – Science Adventures™ Summer Science Camps, an innovative program offered to school-age children at locations nationwide, takes science education out of the traditional classroom in an effort to spark a child’s interest in the world of science and discovery.

Numerous studies have highlighted the benefits of inquiry-based scientific study, or hands-on science programs for young students. In 2001, the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) recommended that 60 percent of instructional time in elementary science classrooms, and 80 percent in middle school science courses, be spent in active investigations.

“With today’s children, it is clear that science education requires inquiry, problem solving and the opportunity to actually experience science first hand,” said Marcy Suntken, President of KLC School Partnerships™. “This approach, as represented in our Science Adventures programs, engages children in science education while instilling a love of science.”

The 2008 Summer Science Camp program, now open for enrollment, incorporates hands-on learning approach that has been developed by education experts.  The program features activities that are fun, engaging and inspire exploration, imagination and creativity, while building skills such as self esteem and teamwork.

Beginning the first week in June, Science Adventures Summer Science Camps offers one of its four exciting programs designed to engage and excite young minds.  Each program is offered for a full week, for either half days or full days:

·  The Space and Rocketry™ 2008 program invites campers on a mission through space to the stars. To start the journey, children will build and launch a rocket as they learn about space travel.
·  The Gizmos, Gadgets and Goop™ program: Children work with Science Adventures mascot Gizmo in his secret lab to discover everything from the science of batteries, bulbs and buzzers to what puts the glow in glow slime.
·  Children in the Science Detective™ program will explore the secrets behind magnets, phosphorescence and invisible ink as they unravel the mystery recipe for ice cream.
·  The Extreme Sports Science™ program gets physical as children investigate and discover all that their bodies can do. Children build a fitness kit, take a tour of the human body and discover the science behind keeping fit.

The program offers flexible options to accommodate families’ busy summer schedules. Parents can opt to enroll their children in one week or up to four weeks of camp.
